6. About Montreal

Montréal, in the North-East of the American continent, in the province of Quebec, is the second-largest city in Canada and the 9th-largest in North America. It is home to 1.7 million people and the metropolitan area has a population of 3.8 million. Montreal has historically been very multicultural and is one of the most cosmopolitan cities in America. It is named after Mount Royal, the triple-peaked hill in the heart of the city. Founded in 1642 it is among the oldest cities in North America and boasts a unique heritage old town and a charming Chinatown. The city covers most of the Island of Montreal on the Saint Lawrence River. Montreal is proud of its French legacy. Actually, it is the second largest primarily French-speaking city in the world, after Paris, and French is the city’s official language. However, Montreal is also the most bilingual city in Canada. It is safe, vibrant, culturally rich, and cosmopolitan.
